WU Hui-Chun
Specializing in ink and gouache painting and inspired by Eastern aesthetics, the artist plays with empty and solid forms to create a sense of flow and tension in space. Her works combine the imagery of traditional Taiwanese tiles with the natural scenery of the coast. The tiles represent personal memories and are arranged in fragmented, modular pieces. The sea, on the other hand, represents the natural environment while also hinting at social communities, showing a fluid, ever-changing state. The push and pull between these two elements reflects the experience of being an individual in a larger world—yearning for the support of a community, yet seeking freedom and independence.
